Kick Counts

What are kick counts?

Kick counts is an exercise we recommend patients do if there is a concern about fetal movement. This exercise needs to be done 3 times a day.

How do I do kick counts?

The goal while doing kick counts is to feel 6 fetal movements in one hour. This can be any kind of movement. It does not matter if it is a little wiggle or a great big kick. Once you feel at least 6 movements, you can stop counting. If you do not get at least 6 movements in one hour you need to drink something sweet (i.e., orange juice). When you are done, lie down on your left side. Now, recount fetal movements. If you do not get 6 movements in this hour, you need to call our office. It is that simple – but its importance CANNOT be underestimated.
